Course Description
This virtual presentation is designed to define implicit bias and discuss how implicit biases can adversely impact the way in which healthcare services are provided to clients. This class has been approved for 2.0 nursing contact hours and should meet initial licensure and renewal licensure requirements in the State of Michigan. All other participants will also receive a certificate of completion.
In this two-hour session, participants will be able to define what implicit bias is, how it manifests in their work as a healthcare provider, the current impact of American medical history that creates inequitable access to healthcare services in the healthcare system, and will give strategies to ameliorate the adverse effect of inequitable access to healthcare based on policies, practices and procedures that result in barriers and disparities in the access to and delivery of health care services.
Successful completion of this educational activity to earn 2.0 nursing contact hours requires you to be present during the entire presentation, participate in the discussion, and complete an evaluation.

Instructor
Yolanda Brown-Spidell is a mom, parent advocate, educator and the Executive Director of Eaglets Educational Consulting Firm, LLC. She has served in both teacher and administrative roles in Detroit and Metro-Detroit for the past 20 years with 10 of those years in alternative education. She completed her undergraduate studies at Eastern Michigan University in psychology and holds a Master’s degree from National University in human behavior. She is a sociology professor, a certificated K-12 administrator, a Certified Trauma and Resilience Trainer (CTRT), a Michigan ACE Community Champion Presenter (MACC) and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion workshop facilitator.
Course Format
This class is held on Zoom. In order to participate, you will need a stable Internet connection and Zoom. Please visit the Zoom System Requirements site for the technical requirements that you will need. You are highly encouraged to use video, but you are required to use audio connection by calling in on a phone or through Zoom. Due to this being a Live-Online course, you will need to be able to ask questions.
After you register here, you will receive an email with an invitation to register for the Zoom meeting. Once you register on Zoom, you will receive the link to join the meeting on the day/time of the course. You can also visit the Zoom Help Center to learn usage before your scheduled course.
