Course Description
American businesses, innovation leaders, and individuals have provided a multitude of innovative products and processes to the world. In fact, the United States continues to be the global leader in technological innovation.
But even that area of innovation is being challenged, as we in American businesses have moved our innovation focus to solving current process problems and issues, while other countries have embraced innovative and out of the box thinking for developing new products and services wanted and needed by their customers, communities, and businesses.
To create or re-ignite a company culture of innovation leadership requires not only a natural inclination towards curiosity, but it requires a clear leadership and innovation path that develop innovation leadership, create positive interactions that foster insightful discussions and out of the box thinking, and provide the ability to successfully develop and deploy innovative solutions.
This four-week introductory course provides participants with an effective and efficient roadmap with purpose-driven executive questions for each stage of the innovation process. The roadmaps will lead you and your teams to: discover untapped customer wants and needs, align and integrate your capabilities with critical requirements and processes, identify, create, and develop innovative products, services, and processes, and provide innovative solutions that provide sustainable success needed in our businesses, communities, schools, and homes.
Objectives
Upon successful course completion, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the differences between specialization approaches and an integrated approach to innovation leadership,
- Describe the process of transitioning from management and control to leadership and innovation,
- Identify tools and strategies for building a culture of innovation, and
- Use a simple process to build leadership and innovation capabilities at every level and in every environment.

- Executives and organizational leaders looking to create environments and cultures of innovation leadership that will positively impact markets, businesses, and communities through providing innovative and sustainable solutions.
- Business and community leaders, entrepreneurs, teachers, and home leaders that want and need to provide innovative solutions and positive impacts in their businesses, communities, schools, and homes.
Prerequisites
- An initiative or project that needs an innovative solution. This project will be worked on throughout the class.
- A desire to create environments and cultures of innovation leadership where they are needed in our communities, workplaces, schools, and in our homes.
- Leaders who want to share their insights and experience to develop the people around them for achieving individual and organizational success now and in the future.
Course Format
Participants will have access to (asynchronous) online material in Canvas, which will be released each week prior to the scheduled virtual session.
Weekly virtual lectures and discussions (synchronous) will be held in Zoom and accessed directly from the Canvas course. For the synchronous sessions, participants must attend all Zoom sessions and complete most required course assignments in order to receive an electronic certificate of completion and CEUs. Participants will need to attend the course from either their home or office using a computer or laptop equipped with a webcam and microphone. To participate, you’ll need a stable Internet connection and minimum technical requirements. Chrome, Firefox and Safari are preferred browsers for Canvas.

- Participants who successfully complete all class requirements will also earn a digital credential from Eastern Michigan University
