Course Title: Introduction to Principles and Approaches of Quality Planning


Course Description
Quality planning is one of three pillars of a QMS (other two are quality control and continuous improvement) per Dr. Juran. This course provides a brief, comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles and methods of quality planning in product and service development. This introductory course can lead to a more focused, in-depth learning and practice of quality planning methods.

  • Continuous improvement practitioners in any field
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course. Basic quality knowledge/experience is important.

Course Objectives
After successfully completing this course, the students will be able to:
  1. Understand customer-centric quality systems
  2. Identify the elements of Hoshin planning and risk management
  3. Develop a Quality Function Deployment (QFD)
  4. Apply the Kano model and affective engineering
  5. Consider variation in quality target setting

Course Materials and Required Software Applications
All required course materials, exercises, and quizzes are available in the online Canvas course shell. A copy of the instructor’s book: Quality Planning and Assurance: Principles, Approaches, and Methods for Product and Service Development, ISBN: 978-1119819271, Wiley is included in the course fee and will be mailed to each participant. No specific software is required for this learning.
 
Course Delivery Format
Sessions:
  • Week 1 - Recognition of Quality
  • Week 2 - Strategic Management
  • Week 3 - Customer-Centric Analysis
  • Week 4 - Quality Assurance by Design
Online:
Participants will have access to (asynchronous) online material in Canvas, which will be released each week prior to the scheduled lecture.


Lecture:
Weekly lectures and discussions (synchronous) will be held in Zoom and can be accessed directly from the Canvas course.
For the synchronous sessions, participants must attend all Zoom sessions and complete most required course assignments in order to receive an electronic certificate of completion and CEUs. Participants will need to attend the course from either their home or office using a computer or laptop equipped with a webcam and microphone. To participate, you’ll need a stable Internet connection and minimum technical requirements. Chrome, Firefox and Safari are preferred browsers for Canvas.

Credential
  • 2 CEUs
  • Contact hours: 20 hours (10 hours virtual lecture / discussion, 10 hours online, self-paced activities).
  • In addition to a certificate of training completion, participants will be issued a digital badge identifying the skills and competencies gained through successful completion.
