The Rainbow Connection: Affirming Practice Considerations with Transgender Clients (Live-Online)

ID : 4781
« back to classes page
There are approximately 1 million individuals in the United States who identify as transgender,
nonbinary, or two-spirit, and this number grows as individuals of any age learn more about the
complexities of gender identity as it relates to their own. Transgender individuals are also at an
increased risk for a number of social ills due to general societal responses to gender variance,
including physical and emotional violence; homelessness; substance use and misuse; sexual
assault, trafficking, or survival sex; mental illness; and suicide. Therefore, there is a growing
need and interest in the field of social work to address both macro and micro considerations
when providing gender-affirming services to all clients, and to this population in particular.
This CEU course aims to educate participants in understanding the difference between sex and
gender; recognizing unique practice considerations when working with transgender clients;
applying gender-affirmative knowledge at the macro level; and providing gender-affirming
resources to their clients as appropriate.
