Objectives:

Specifically deals with water-based resin technology and coating formulation and properties. Throughout the course, facts and findings as well as formulation guidelines will be discussed. Mimimum student contact hours: 21 (2.1 CEUs)

Day One          
  • Introduction and  Overview of Coating Technologies
  • WB Coatings: Fundamental Concepts
  • Unique features and challenge of using water in coatings
  • Film formation fundamentals in WB coatings                                    
Day-Two          
  • Resin Systems for WB coatings        
  • Concepts of emulsion, dispersions, water-reducible resin systems
  • WB Resin Chemistries – Acrylic /vinyl latex, PUDs, dispersions of PE, Epoxy, Alkyds
Day Three        
  • Water-borne coatings – fundamentals and formulation concepts
  • Rheology and its applications in coating formulation
  • Additives , Coating defects and resolution
Day Four          
  • Understanding Latex Paint formulation
  • Pigment dispersion and equipment
  • Formulation from scratch – Water-borne coatings

Please read:  The virtual class will include live-online Zoom sessions, as well as pre and post session activities in our online learning management system, Canvas. In order to receive an electronic certificate of completion, attendees are required to attend all the sessions of the course and keep their Video camera on at all times. It is highly recommended that attendees participate in the discussions, as well as quizzes that are designed to reinforce learning of the concepts discussed in the virtual course.   Participants will need to attend the course from either a home or office on a computer or laptop equipped with a Webcam and Microphone. We highly recommend using headphones or a headset, if possible. Using an I-Phone to attend the course or logging in using multiple devices is not allowed.   To participate, you’ll need a stable Internet connection and minimum technical requirements. Chrome, Firefox and Safari are preferred browsers for Canvas. Please visit the Zoom System Requirements site for the technical requirements that you will need.  All required training materials will be available for download in Canvas or through a link to an online resource.
