This course is a hybrid format designed to cover many of the major legal topics necessary for an HR business professional. By the end of the course, students should have a basic understanding of legal and ethical compliance in business circumstances, and will also better assess legal and ethical issues in business decision-making. The course will address the American legal system and ethics in business. Topics include but are not limited to corporate social responsibility, constitutional foundations, torts, and common law contracts.
The American legal system is an adaptable body of laws that ideally expresses the public will. As such, the law is constantly addressing the needs of a dynamic society, within a constitutional framework. Oftentimes the law seems to needlessly complicate and frustrate the decision-making process. Yet the law generally only sets the minimum standard for acceptable business behavior. An ethical code of conduct will exist in a business environment, and if you wish to be successful, you need to be responsive to that code as well.
The course is scheduled for May 7th to June 10th, 2018 in an online format working on an integrative legal business case. This course will count as Law Business foundation course for MSHROD EMU students.
