About the Instructor:
Hawra Khraizat, LMSW, MA, completed her MSW degree from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor. Hawra is a licensed clinical therapist who has a wide range of experience working with children, adults, and families.
Her scope of practice includes treating depression, anxiety; PTSD, trauma, OCD, ADD/ADHD, relationship and communication issues, and cultural identity-related issues.
Hawra is passionate about educating providers on topics including: Grief, Loss and Healing, Anger and Forgiveness, Dealing with Difficult Clients, Human Trafficking and Building Childhood Resilience.

Class Objectives:

 
  • Participants will explain the different types of pain and their impact on both physical and emotional well-being.
  • Participants will identify at least three approaches to pain management, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods, while addressing the role of opioids in pain treatment.
  • Participants will discuss the opioid epidemic, its connection to over-prescription, and the risks of opioid addiction and overdose, emphasizing the importance of responsible prescribing practices.
  • Participants will explore alternative pain management strategies, such as physical therapy, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral techniques, to reduce reliance on opioids.
  • Participants will assess how to effectively monitor and evaluate pain in clients while considering the broader context of the opioid crisis and its impact on healthcare practices.
