Class Description:
Learn the scientific and historical basis for mindfulness practices and how to share them with clients in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive way. In this experiential workshop, learn several short grounding and awakening mindfulness techniques for resilience drawing from somatics, yoga, qigong, and psychology/social work. No experience necessary. Movements will be small and can be done virtually. Learn how to help yourself and others create short, doable, realistic practices to bring greater awareness and care for body, mind, and heart/spirit.
Class Objectives:
- Participants will learn the scientific benefits and historical roots of mindfulness and learn how it contributes to resilience.
- Participants will gain a beginning understanding of trauma-informed mindfulness and what precautions to consider when recommending exploration of mindfulness practices or meditation with clients and students.
- Participants will learn and practice a variety of mindfulness practices. They will also explore common barriers people encounter adapting practices to fit their own philosophical, cultural, spiritual, secular, or religious backgrounds—as well as life circumstances.
