Course Description
This eight-hour, in-depth, seminar is intended for employers’ supervisory personnel and employees directly involved with excavation work covering excavation hazards and all MIOSHA Part 9 requirements, providing for increased hazard recognition and awareness and greater understanding of excavation protective requirements. The program will cover:

Excavation cave-in hazards
Fundamental soil mechanics
Struck-by equipment and material hazards
Underground utility hazards
Overhead hazards (powerlines)
Underground utility clearance requirements
Hazardous atmospheres
Part 9 definitions
Competent person role
Qualified person role
Registered Professional Engineer role
Excavations deeper than 20 feet design requirements
Access and egress requirements
- Ladders and stairs
- Structural ramps
- Earthen ramps
Cave-in protective system requirements
- Sloping and benching sidewalls
- Trench boxes and shields
- Shoring systems
