Course Title
OSHA #7100: Introduction to Machinery and Machine Safeguarding 

Course Description 
This course covers the process to identify, select and properly safeguard machinery to protect employees and others in the work area and deliver appropriate training in safe work practices. Course topics include types of machinery requiring guarding, point of operation, emergency eyewash/shower requirements, hazard communication, OSHA Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards violations, and corrective actions.

Course Objectives 
Upon course completion, students will have the ability to explain hazardous actions and motions of various types of machinery, identify methods of safeguarding, and match identified safeguards with the applicable OSHA Machinery and Machine Guarding Standards to reduce and eliminate the potential for accidents and injuries. Minimum student contact hours: 4

  • Eligibility: Limited to those living or working in OSHA's Chicago Region (MI, OH, IN, IL, WI, MN).
  • ID Requirement: Government-issued photo ID (federal, state, or local) required at Day 1 check-in.
  • Device Rules: Must use a desktop or laptop computer at a home or office (iPhones, iPads, and tablets are strictly prohibited).
  • Technical Setup: Requires a working webcam, microphone, stable internet connection, and Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browser.
  • Camera Policy: Video must remain on continuously throughout class to verify attendance and participation.
  • Prohibited Actions: Using multiple devices, taking photos, or recording any session.
  • Completion Criteria: Must attend 100% of Zoom sessions and finish all Canvas assignments to earn CEUs and an electronic certificate.
  • Course Access: Reminder email containing access instructions and an orientation video arrives roughly one week prior to start.
