Course Title
NFPA 70E Electrical Safety (Medium Voltage)

Course Description
This two-day course provides comprehensive training on electrical safety procedures, planning, and electrical maintenance using the latest NFPA 70E (2024) and NFPA 70B standards, along with applicable OSHA requirements and industry best practices. Topics include establishing an electrically safe work condition, recognizing and controlling electrical hazards, lockout/tagout procedures, arc flash protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), electrical maintenance requirements, and the relationship between NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, OSHA 1910 Subpart S, and OSHA 1926 Subpart K. Participants will also learn how to develop an Electrical Maintenance Program (EMP), establish maintenance intervals, perform basic testing methods, and integrate maintenance practices with safe electrical work procedures. Classroom instruction is reinforced through interactive discussions and practical application activities.

Course Objectives
Upon course completion, students will be able to identify electrical hazards and implement appropriate protective measures to reduce the risk of shock, electrocution, and arc flash. Participants will understand the relationship between NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, and OSHA requirements; establish electrically safe work conditions; determine appropriate arc flash PPE categories; recognize employer and employee responsibilities; perform electrical hazard analyses; identify safety-related maintenance requirements; and apply safe work practices when working on or near energized electrical equipment. Students will also learn the significant updates introduced in the 2024 edition of NFPA 70E, develop an Electrical Maintenance Program (EMP), establish equipment maintenance intervals, identify common electrical testing methods, and understand how electrical maintenance supports regulatory compliance and workplace safety.

Course Materials and Required Software Applications
Participants attending virtually will need to attend the course from either a home or office on a computer or laptop equipped with a webcam and microphone. Participants will need a stable internet connection and should use either Chrome, Firefox, or Safari for compatibility with Canvas.
